In April 2020, the Arc de Triomphe on Place Charles de Gaulle will disappear!
No, little green men are not beaming down to steal our historical monuments! We have our own artists, drunk on poetry and mad ideas, for that! Just like the Pont Neuf bridge in 1985, the Arc de Triomphe will be completely enshrouded in 2020. This nutty project has been the brain child of two people, Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude since 1961. Jeanne-Claude passed away in 2009. In a final act of love, representing his desire to say to his soul mate, “Look, my love, there’s our arch just for the two of us, our song of love and triumph”, Christo Javacheff has managed to bring this brilliant idea to fruition. 25,000 metres of recyclable fabric in silver and bluish tones and 7,000 metres of red rope to wrap up the Arc de Triomphe in its entirety from 6 to 19 April 2020.
